Digital Innovation Competition & Exhibition opens at UET
PESHAWAR two-day All Pakistan Digital Innovation Competition and Exhibition (DICE) 2011 opened at the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar on Tuesday.
Governor Barrister Masood Kausar, who is also chancellor of the varsity, formally opened the exhibition at a ceremony in the presence of academics, industrialists and students.The governor appreciated the UET in recognising the importance of industry-university linkage and said it was evident through the success of the event.
“As future engineers you should feel proud in what you are doing. However, you should be mindful that you owe something to humanity. You are blessed, more educated and better in integrity than others. As engineers, you have to respond to the call and play constructive role instead of being involved in political issues,” he added.
Vice-Chancellor Imtiaz Hussain Gilani said with HEC’s support, the universities started their journey from 2002 with mandate of increasing access, improve quality and bring in relevant research to resolve nation’s problems. Under the auspices of UET, Higher Education Commission, Directorate of Science and Technology, Peshawar and Bank of Khyber, DICE gathered leading universities of Pakistan including COMSATS, Lahore, NED University, Punjab University, NUST, Bannu University, UET Taxila, Dow University, Karachi Bahauddin Zakria University, Multan and International Islamic University, Islamabad to show case their projects and participate in quiz, speed programming and robotics competitions.
The DICE is an annual promotional event held to sensitize youth by sharing best practices in digital revolution and generating interest to develop durable and user friendly indigenous engineering products. Dean of Engineering, Prof Dr Azzam ul Asar and Kurshid Qureshi, DICE international Advisor also spoke on the occasion. The DICE will conclude today at the UET Peshawar.
