LAHORE, Nov 24: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) will conduct the entrance test for admission to two-year Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy (TDPT) programme on Saturday (tomorrow).


According to a press release issued here on Thursday, the test will start at 2pm and will last for two hours. The paper will be based on multiple choice questions.


The TDPT is a post-professional degree programme designed for practicing physical therapists already holding a bachelor degree and who wish to enhance their basic skills and professional status.

LHC Issues Notics to UHS

LAHORE:November 22: The Lahore High Court on Monday issued notice for December 9, to University of Health Sciences (UHS) on a civil miscellaneous application seeking permission to implead UHS in a pending petition challenging establishment of four unrecognized medical colleges in the province.LHC Chief Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed issued notice on a application filed by the petitioner-counsel Noshab A Khan. The counsel submitted that the UHS had dropped names of 400 candidates from the merit list for admission to government institutions for the 2011-12 session as the medical colleges set up in Sialkot, Gujranwala, Sahiwal and DG Khan had yet to be recognised by the Pakistan medical and Dental Council (PMDC).”The rift between the Punjab Government and the PMDC over recognition of these colleges has so far put the future of students at stake,” he said. He said that public and private medical colleges were bound to finalise their admission process before November 30, according to PMDC rules.But admission and registration matters of students of these colleges have worsened because of delay in completion of procedural formalities by the respondents, he said.He said that the situation further worsened after the UHS refusal to get the students registered, who were already taking classes in said colleges for last one year, with the PMDC. He requested the court to allow to implead the UHS in the case. The CJ after hearing the arguments issued notice to the UHS for December 9 and also issued notice to Punjab government and others on main petition.The petitioner submitted in his petition that the Punjab government inaugurated four medical colleges without recognition of the PMDC for validation of Medical Qualifications. He submitted that the government remained oblivious despite students’ genuine concerns over not seeking recognition by the PMDC of these colleges.He said the precious academic year of the students was at stake and if the government was not restrained to stop this illegitimate activity, the students were bound to suffer grave and irreparable loss.APP.

UHS General Policy guidelines ( Prospectus )

1. The rules and regulations contained in this prospectus are approved by the Government of the Punjab. Theprospectus is revised on yearly basis to update the changes.



2. This prospectus is issued for the Session 2011-2012 and is applicable to all candidates desirous of admissionand those who shall be admitted in public sector Medical/Dental Institutions of the Punjab. All candidatesmust study the prospectus before applying for admission. The candidates and students are required to read,know and abide by the rules and regulations mentioned in the prospectus. Ignorance of rules and regulationsshall not be considered as an excuse under any circumstances at any stage.



3. Only those candidates who have appeared in the Entrance Test conducted by the University of Health Sciences,Lahore, for year 2011, shall be considered eligible for admission to Public/Private Sector Medical/DentalInstitutions of the Punjab.

College, Lahore, where only female students are admitted.



9. The University of Health Sciences (UHS) reserves the right to make any changes in the syllabi, curricula,teaching modalities and evaluation system for MBBS/BDS students of its affiliated colleges, through its statutorybodies, at any time during the course of studies.



10. Government of the Punjab has abolished the Self-Finance Seats in all Medical/Dental Institutions of theprovince from Session 2008-2009. This will have no retrospective effect on the students already admitted againstthe self- finance seats in the previous years and they will have to pay their tuition fee etc., according to the rulesgiven in the prospectus of their respective session.



11. The Government of the Punjab and Chairman Admission Board reserves the right to add or alter any rule(s) in theprospectus at any stage with the concurrence of Admission Board.

LAHORE; Wednesday, October 19, 2011: The Laureate International Universities Network based in the US has designated the University of Health Sciences (UHS) as a model health university in Pakistan.

A three-member delegation led by Laureate Online Education Course Director Naveen Ramnanan, visited the UHS on Tuesday and conducted detailed interviews of the vice chancellor and other officials of the university. These interviews will become part of a course on leadership and governance for international students.

During its four-day stay, the team will also make a video of the ongoing systems and procedures at the UHS for online dissemination throughout the world. Laureate International Universities is a network of institutions of higher education in 28 countries. It is one of the leaders in medical and health sciences education, with 65,000 students enrolled in medical and health sciences programmes.

University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Friday with the aim of streamlining the essential life-saving service

LAHORE: First National Ambulance Service College of Pakistan was inaugurated at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Friday with the aim of streamlining the essential life-saving service and to train paramedics in accordance with the international standards.

According to a UHS spokesman, the college was established at the UHS Institute of Learning Emergency Medicine and is affiliated with the National Ambulance College, Dublin, Ireland. It will provide training facilities to the rescuers and paramedical staff belonging to the Rescue 1122 and Edhi Ambulance Service.

He said that for starters, a one-year certification course had been introduced for emergency medical technicians. The Irish visiting faculty will monitor and impart the training in the country, whereas the director of the National Ambulance Service College, Dublin, will act as the director of the newly established college.

The emergency medical technician course offered by the college will consist of three modules and the Irish experts will select candidates after holding proper interviews. There will be examinations at the end of every module and students will have to do a one-year compulsory internship at a recognised hospital after the final examination.

University of Health Sciences has said | no discrimination

LAHORE – The spokesman of the University of Health Sciences has said that no discrimination is being meted out to the candidates of South Punjab with regards to admissions in public sector medical and dental colleges of the province.


Dispelling the impression created by some political elements, the spokesman said in a press statement issued on Friday that for the last 4 years consecutively the candidates from far-flung and under developed district of Southern Punjab have been outshining the students of central and northern parts of the province in medical colleges’ admissions. Merit is the only criterion for admission to any medical / dental college, he emphasized.
He said that according to the statistics, the percentage of candidates admitted from the districts of Southern Punjab with respect to the number of candidates who applied from these areas was 11.51 per cent in 2009 and 11.63 per cent in 2010. In contrast, the percentage of candidates admitted from Central Punjab had been 10.27 per cent and 9.63 per cent and that from Northern Punjab was 7.29 per cent and 8.51per cent in 2009 and 2010 respectively.


Moreover, according to population wise analysis also, the percentage of students admitted from Southern Punjab last year was 0.00404 as compared to 0.00362 and 0.00378 for central and northern parts respectively, he added.
He further said that in 2010, total number of candidates admitted from Multan was 180, Muzaffargarh 144, DG Khan 92, Bahawalpur 72, Bahawalnagar 52, Rajanpur 33, Lodhran 32 and from Bhakkar it was 36. On the contrary, he added, only 133 candidates from Rawalpindi and 48 from Islamabad could get admission in public sector medical colleges of the province last year.
He also refuted the allegation that the weightage of entrance test marks was increased by UHS. He clarified that the UHS was following the weightage formula of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council in compliance with the directive of apex court.

Lawyers of UHS, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council

LAHORE - A division bench of Lahore High Court on Tuesday rejected a request by University of Health Sciences (UHS) to vacate the stay against its Combined Merit List for admission to the medical colleges and deferred hearing by one day.
Lawyers of UHS, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and the petitioner began brawling and quarrelling in the courtroom, disrupting the proceedings and annoying the court.
The court, warning the lawyers, observed “Should we close down the court if you want to decide the matter yourself?”
The bench comprising Justice Ch Shahid Saeed and Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, reprimanding the parties, suspended the proceedings for a while. However the lawyers apologised to the court for their rough attitude and said they would observe the court’s decorum.
Before the eruption of a storm in the courtroom, the bench asked PMDC counsel Ch Muhammad Umair why there was no check on private medical colleges which were charging fee in lacs. The court also asked if the son or daughter of a poor man could afford to study in these private colleges and that had the PMDC fixed some quota in the medical colleges for the poor?
The court also rejected the request of UHS Counsel Arsalan Husan Syed to vacate the stay order granted on previous hearing against implementation of UHS’s merit list observing that proceedings in the case were almost complete. The situation took a bad turn when the petitioner’s counsel Azhar Siddique told the court that UHS’ counsel was lying.
The UHS counsel had said an LHC bench in a judgment in 2010 had set a standard process for admissions which the university was following together with PMDC rules of the business. PMDC counsel told the court that the FSc system had some defects so the entry test system was used as a standard measure.
Azhar said UHS counsel was lying to the court as in 2010 question of the FSc pass marks came before court and the question of giving more weightage to entry test marks over FSc marks had been raised for the first time.
The bench directed the counsel for the petitioner to complete his arguments on Wednesday (today), when the judgment would also be announced.

Irregularities alleged in UHS entrance test
Lahore, Oct 1: The students and parents have alleged irregularities in the results of entrance test of University of Health Sciences (UHS) for admission to medical/dental colleges in Punjab, as the university has not displayed all four keys to determine the result by the candidates on their own.

The students and parents, while talking to the media persons, said that the UHS authorities had uploaded on its website a single answer key of 0 code out of four answer keys (i.e. 0, 1, 2, 3), which had created a lot of doubts in the minds of the students and their parents about the transparency in the result of entrance test. They alleged that the university administration was favouring certain influential candidates by displaying only a single key on the Internet.

Besides, according to them, UHS authorities had been preparing entrance test results on Optical Mark Reader (OMR) machine by keeping it on Auto mode in order to declare the result within a minimum stipulated time after the holding of the test. They claimed that some of the university employees had told them that OMR machine gave correct result only on Manual mode and showed errors on Auto mode, but this Manual mode exercise required much longer time than the stipulated time of declaration of the result of entrance test.

The students claimed that they had attempted all the questions correctly but the result displayed on the Internet was showing otherwise. They informed that all the affected candidates had achieved over 90 percent marks in their FSc examinations. The parents of the students said that it was incomprehensible that those candidates, who had achieved 1,000 plus marks in FSc and were also satisfied with their performance in entrance test, ultimately turned out to be failed in the entrance test.

How can a student fail with 16 wrong answers in Biology paper when he or she had achieved over 95 percent result during his/her four-year academic career in Matriculation and Intermediate examinations, said Mrs Zahida Iftikhar, mother of a female candidate in the examination.

The students and parents demanded to upload all four answer keys or display attempted papers of the students on the Internet to determine the result by the candidates themselves.

UHS Merit List on Fire students refused to accept there merit list

LAHORE A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC), on Tuesday, turned down the request of the University of Health Sciences’ (USH) counsel seeking withdrawal of stay order on October 20 merit list of the UHS for admissions in medical colleges, adding that a complete decision on the petition will be made in the next hearing.

The bench said that it would hear further arguments on the petition challenging the provision of an entry test for admission in medical colleges of Punjab today (Wednesday).

The bench said that it would also take up other petitions in favour of the entrance test system filed by students who had passed the tests.


The counsel of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), on Tuesday, said that all the private medical colleges were only doing business and not serving the education sector.

He also said that a uniform policy/criteria for admission was being implemented across the country since the year 2003 and a LHC single bench had also endorsed the system last year. He informed that the UHS had initially refused to follow the council’s criteria but had agreed to implement it this year. To a court’s question as to whether the privatemedical colleges allocated admission quota for the poor yet bright students, the PMDC’s counsel said that the private colleges did not allocate any such quota since they were totally “business organisations”.

The bench observed that the government should force the private medical colleges to allocate quota for the students belonging to the underprivileged sector of society, addingthat the majority of the country’s population came under the underprivileged sector.



The judge added that in case no mechanism was evolved to govern the private sector then double shifts should be introduced in public sector colleges to accommodate the poor students.

The bench also questioned how will a decision against the entry tests affect the future of those students who had applied in the privatemedical colleges, had been selected and deposited money. The counsel said that the PMDC would take action as soon as the court gave any directions.

Meanwhile, the UHS counsel said that the private teaching/training for entrance tests could not be banned. He said that the root of the problem was the substandard FSc examination system that needed improvement. The petitioner’s counsel, Muhammad Azhar Siddique, said that non-allocation of quota for poor students was in clear violation with the Article 25 and 25-A of the constitution.

The bench comprising Justice Ch Shahid Saeed and Justice Malik Shahzad made these observations while hearing petitions filed by Muhammad Zubair, Maqsood Ahmed Qureshi, Shagufta Mubeen, Robina Iqbal, Javaid Iqbal and Muhammad Khurshid.

The petitioners’ counsel said that the UHS had introduced a new method this year that gave 50 percent weightage to entry test, 40 percent to FSc numbers and 10 percent to matriculation marks.

He said that earlier, 70 percent weightage was given to FSc and 30 percent to the entry test. He submitted that 50 percent weightage was being given to the entry test (MCAT), which consisted of a paper of two-and-a-half-hours that had an objective approach rather than one that was more subjective or practical.

The counsel requested that directions be issued to concerned colleges and universities, asking them to wind up the criterion of entry test so that equal opportunities of education could be provided to the youth in accordance with the constitution.Daily Times.

ENTRANCE TEST-2011
For Admission to Public and Private Medical / Dental Institutions of the Punjab


The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore, shall conduct the Entrance Test for admission in First Year MBBS / BDS in Public and Private Medical and Dental Institutions of the Punjab onTuesday, 13th September, 2011 at 09:00 A.M.

As per Regulations of Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC), it is mandatory to appear in the Entrance Test of the Punjab for admission to any medical / dental college of the province.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ENTRANCE TEST
The candidate has passed Intermediate Science (HSSC/F.Sc) (Pre-Medical Group) or Equivalent Examination, securing at-least 60% (660/1100), unadjusted marks (excluding the marks of Hifz-e-Quran).
Those awaiting result must provide a Hope Certificate (in original), issued by the Head/Principal of their concerned institution, clearly stating that the said candidate is expected to secure at-least 60% marks in HSSC or Equivalent Examination.
WHO CAN APPLY
The candidates having domicile of any district of the Punjab and Federal Capital Area (Islamabad), Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Province of Gilgit-Baltistan (Northern Area).
Foreign students or dual nationals of Pakistani origin must take the Entrance Test (If they have not passed SAT II examination with a minimum score of 550 marks in each science subject i.e., Biology, Chemistry and Physics / Mathematics) for admission against seats reserved for them under Pakistan Technical Assistance Programme (PTAP) and Self- Finance Scheme (SFS).
FORMAT OF ENTRANCE TEST
The test shall consist of one paper containing 220 multiple-choice questions (MCQs)- four options with single correct answer- divided into Four sections, namely:
Physics (44 MCQs)
Chemistry (58 MCQs)
English (General for language proficiency) (30 MCQs)
Biology (88 MCQs)
The duration of Test shall be 150 minutes (2½ hours).
Each question carries 05 marks. Total marks, therefore, are 1100.
SYLLABUS OF ENTRANCE TEST
The syllabus of Entrance Test 2011 has been available on UHS website www.uhs.edu.pk. The candidates are advised to prepare for the Entrance Test according to this syllabus from their respective textbooks.
CENTRES FOR ENTRANCE TEST
Entrance Test 2011 will be held simultaneously in following cities:
Southern Punjab Central Punjab Northern Punjab
Bahawalpur , Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, and D.G. Khan. Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Sargodha. Rawalpindi and Hassan Abdal

Candidates shall mention on their Application Forms and Admittance Cards the centre city from where they wish to appear in the test.
Centres will be allotted by UHS subject to administrative / logistic arrangements which shall not be changed subsequently.
HOW TO APPLY FOR ENTRANCE TEST
Entrance Test Application Kit will be available at UHS and public sector medical / dental colleges at Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Rahim Yar Khan, from 20th August to 7th September, 2011(on working days only) from 9.00 A.M. to 3.00 P.M.
Dully filled Application Forms can be submitted, in the following way, from 20th August to 7th September, 2011(on working days) from 9.00 A.M. to 3.00 P.M.
