Punjab govt approves Rs152m grant for FJWU hostel

Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) Vice Chancellor Dr. Samina Amin Qadir Tuesday said that work on the hostel for accommodating over 260 students would start soon after the release of Rs152 million approved by the Punjab government.


Talking to the media, she said that the hostel would be completed within two years, addingthat PC-1 of the project was approved in 2010, which has ground plus three floors.



She said that the 11th convocation would be held today (Wednesday) at the Jinnah Convention Centre. Punjab Governor Sardar Mohammad Latif Khosa will be the chief guest. She said that 13 students from Master’s Programme and 17 from Undergraduate Programme would be given awards. Silver medals would be awarded to 29 students among which 14 are from Master’s and 15 are from Undergraduate level.

Sponsored gold medals would also be awarded to the students of Department of Communication and Media Studies and Department of Economics. CEO Mishall Pakistan Amir Jahangir, Director Content Mishall Pakistan Purvesh Chaudhry, Syed Musa Raza Wahidi, Shafqat Sultana President and Fauzia Janjua Senior Executive of the First Women Bank Ltd. will award gold medals to the students.

The vice chancellor said that they have 24 linkages with national and international universities to facilitate their students. This year 1,023 students are graduating in masters and undergraduate sessions. The fees has been structured in a way that there is no financial burden on the students like private universities. For the last two years the fees has not been increased but in the coming year 10% fees would be increase to generate income to bear our expenses.

Talking about the faculty, she said that 36 faculty members have gone abroad for perusing their PhDs in Canada, US, Germany, Australia, England. “This is the first time that the university is awarding PhD degree to two students one in Economics and the other one is in Education.

FJWU Pindi Admission 2011/2012

Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi, has admissions open for female candidates only to M.Phil. leading to Ph.D./Ph.D.

FJWU has a Ph.D. program, consistent with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) M.Phil. leading to Ph.D./Ph.D. criteria/requirement. It is a program requiring full time student enrollment for course work.

For admission in M.Phil. leading to Ph.D., applicants are required to have:
Minimum of first division in Masters/BS 4-years from any HEC recognized university. (In English second division in Masters is acceptable, as per HEC ruling).
Cleared HEC GRE/GAT with 50% score.
No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer (if applicable).
Preference will be given to the students who have completed masters with Research Thesis.

Admissions in M.Phil. leading to Ph.D. program are open for the following departments:

For admission in Ph.D., applicants are required to have:
Minimum CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0 in the semester system) or first division (in the annual system) in M.Phil./M.S./equivalent is required.
A subject test conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS) or ETS, USA in the area of specialization chosen at the Ph.D. level must be cleared prior to admission for the Ph.D. program
In the case of GAT subject test, a minimum of 50% marks are required to pass the test.

Admissions in Ph.D. program are open for the following departments:

The application forms can be downloaded from Fatima Jinnah Women University website and sent to the Registrar Office along with a bank draft of Rs.1,000 in the name of Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi through post/courier.

Last date for submission of applications:

Application, completed in all respects, on the prescribed form must be submitted in the Registrar Office by November 29, 2011.
