SWABI The local chapter of Awami National Party has demanded of the government to set up a full-fledged university in Swabi instead of establishing a campus of Khan Abdul Wali Khan University the district.
The demand was made at a meeting, held here the other day to finalise arrangements for the visit of Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti to the district on Nov 28. The chief minister will address a public gathering at Shamansoor during his visit.
ANP district information secretary Javed Khan told Dawn that the chief minister was scheduled to visit the district soon after Eid but it was delayed owing to death of ANP leader Hanif Gul Jadoon in a suicide attack.
The participants of the meeting said that Swabi was declared his second home by Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan as its residents rendered tremendous sacrifices for the party in difficult times.
“Now we have our own government in the province so we have a right to demanda university for the district. Nothing short of the university is acceptable to us,” said one of the participants.
Javed Khan said that ANP government had already completed a network of roads in thedistrict. Awarding tehsil status to Razaar was a gift for the locals, he said, adding they would no longer face difficulties to reach the courts.
About the allegations of some dissident activists of the party, he said that those people were expelled from ANP. “They can adopt whatever policy they want and work according their own plan. But they cannot not harm ANP in the district,” he said.Dawn.
