HEC satisfied with varsities’ cooperation
Islamabad, Aug 07: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Friday clarified that it was satisfied with the process of verification of degrees of parliamentarians being carried out by universities.

In a statement issued by the commission, it said all universities were cooperating with the HEC and the entire process was being carried out according to the prescribed rules and regulations.

Clarifying the news reports saying an HEC team had made a surprise visit to the University of Sindh, the HEC said the news was not based on facts as neither an HEC representative had made such visit to any university, nor was it an HEC policy to make surprise visits to universities for any purpose.


“The media is requested to verify any such news before its dissemination through print or electronic media,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Dr Reazuddin, an HEC scholar, has completed his doctorate in Molecular Modelling from the University of Illinois under the HEC’s scheme titled ‘Development of High Level S&T Manpower through Split PhD”. Dr Reazuddin is the first PhD in the field of Computational Drug Discovery in Pakistan. His research work has been published in international journals with a cumulative impact factor of 8.68.

The split PhD programme was designed to provide scholars a chance to complete a portion (two to three years) of their PhD work in a reputable foreign university. The objective was to enhance research exposure of the scholars already registered for a PhD in Pakistan.

Dr Reazuddin proceeded to the University of Illinois as a visiting research scholar after studying for two and a half years at HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry.

“The opportunity provided by the HEC to study in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment has broadened my vision. I have learnt different ways to tackle complex situation through improved problem solving skills”, said Dr Reazuddin, who aims to share his knowledge and expertise with the youth in Pakistan.
