Islamabad:October 29:The Islamabad College of Arts and Sciences (ICAS), G-11 Campus, in collaboration with the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), organised the ‘UN Day —Planting Peace’ here on Friday.
The event, organised and attended by ICAS students, aimed to provide a platform to students to discuss and recommend solutions to issues being faced the world over and, in particular, how to promote peace. The function was presided over by Ambassador of Brazil to Pakistan Alfredo Leoni, Alumni Affairs United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) Director Mazhar Qayyum Awan, was also present on the occasion.
Mrs. Christina Afridi and Mrs. Saba Raisani were the judges for the event. Almost 100 students representing approximately 44 countries were dressed in the national costumes of countries assigned to them and presented creative ways in which their country could promote peace in the world.
“It gives me immense pleasure to be at this event and represent Brazil, one of the most peaceful countries in the world,” the ambassador said. The USEFP educational advisers present at the event guided students on the benefits of pursuing their higher education in the US along with providing overviews on application procedure, scholarship opportunities and free advising services being provided to students through USEFP centers in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.
ICAS Principal Nusrat Tahir while speaking on the occasion said that this event is just another way of highlighting the need to identify the importance of the role played by students in enhancing Pakistan’s ability to match strength with international competitors.
