Karachi Young Pakistani students made their mark at the 11th Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) by grabbing two gold and five silver medals.



Karachi Young Pakistani students made their mark at the 11th Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) by grabbing two gold and five silver medals.

The APICTA was organised in Pattaya, Thailand, in which different ICT firms from Pakistan secured two gold awards in the e-Health and e-Logistics & SCM categories and 5 silver medals in Communication, Financial, Security, e-Inclusion & e-Community and e-Government categories.

Pakistan’s team comprised 18 products, which were competing with 162 products from the Asia-Pacific region.

The Centre for Advanced Research in Engineering (Care) once again swept the awards with the gold in e-Health and the silver in Communication, Security and e-Government categories.


The Lumen soft Technologies went for a gold in the e-Logistics category with InfoTech Group taking the silver in the Financial Apps category and Engro-Orix taking the silver in the e-Inclusion & e-Community category.

The APICTA 2011 awards were announced a day before by the Association of Thai ICT Industry and supported by the Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA).

The recipients of gold awards are the Centre for Advanced Research in Engineering (Care) for e-Health Applications category and Lumensoft (private) Limited for e-Logistics category.

The recipients of silver awards are Centre for Advanced Research in Engineering (Care) for Security Applications category, Centre for Advanced Research in Engineering (CARE) for e-Government category, Centre for Advanced Research in Engineering (Care) forCommunication category, Infotech (private) Limited for Financial Applications category and Engro Foods & Orix Leasing Pakistan for e-Inclusion & E-Community Applications category.The news.

ICT Scholarship 2011-2012 extended date



Last date for submission of student registration/scholarship application form for Prime Minister’s National ICT Scholarship Program 2011, formerly known as National ICT Scholarship program, has been extended till 5:00 pm Friday, November 18, 2011.

Students who fulfill the eligibility criteria and have already obtained admission in one of the participating universities must submit their registration forms at the earliest, if they have already not done so.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicant must have passed or appeared in F.Sc. Examination with Mathematics and Physics in 2010 or 2011.
Applicant must have obtained 60% or above marks in their Matriculation (Science Group) examination.
Applicant must have attended F.Sc. classes as a regular student from a school/college registered with National ICT R&D Fund.
Applicant must have secured admission in one of the participating universities.
Applicant must also fulfill the merit requirements set forth by National ICT R&D Fund.
Applicant should also fulfill the financial criteria mentioned in the student registration/scholarship application forms.

Student Registration/Scholarship Application Forms are available at National ICT R&D Fund website.

National ICT R&D Fund (“Company”) reserves the right to amend or alter any of the terms and conditions with respect to the PM’s National ICT Scholarship Program 2011 (“Program”). Final decisions pertaining to the program rest with the company.

Pakistan Holds Oscars of 2011 Name ICT


The 8th P@SHA ICT Awards, the flagship ICT industry event, was held yesterday to recognize the technology talent and toppers of ICT industry here in Karachi.
The star-studded Oscar Night honored the best Software and Service applications in 25 different categories. The winning companies will be representing Pakistani delegation with P@SHA in Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) scheduled to be held in Thailand from November 8 – 11, 2011.
This year over 100+ entries were received in the 25 categories and judges, who are seasoned professionals from within the IT sector, were totally blown away by some of the nominated software products. There is a lot of creative work being done within the technology industry that goes unrecognized.
Nadeem Elahi, the Chairman of P@SHA said that the industry has faced many challenges in the past few years but it has continued to innovate and progress. It continues to hire and train young people and provide them with opportunities to do interesting and cutting-edge work.
Amongst the winners were those involved in developing Financial, e-Government, Communications, E-Inclusion & E-Community, Tools & Infrastructure, Security, Industrial, Digital Media & Entertainment, Mobile Games and E-Learning Applications as well as intensely heavily researched Research & Development Applications.
Awards were also bestowed on the best Startup Companies and innovative Tertiary Student Projects. The Best CIO in the Private and Public sectors were also recognized.
Each year the entries are exciting, innovative and cutting edge showing the depth of the industry and its capabilities, said Jehan Ara, the President of the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES (P@SHA).
The P@SHA ICT Awards, she said, are aimed at discovering and highlighting the brilliant innovation taking place and showcasing it to the world through participation at local and regional events.
