LAHORE Student historians of the Government College University Lahore made history by beating other finalists on Wednesday in the inter-departmental Faiz Ahmed Faiz quiz, 2011.
The event, organised by Ravians Quiz Society, saw odd finalists: chemistry, psychology, statistics and history, which were asked questions on the literary works and life of celebrated literary figures of the sub-continent — Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Rajinder Singh Bedi.
The competition among 13 academic departments of the university spanned up to six rounds, says a press release.In the rigorous battle testing the knowledge and wits of participants, the statistics department team stood third, chemistry department second and history department first. The winner team consists of Amish Hassan and Tehseen Wattoo.
Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleequr Rehman advised the Ravians to lead a life of a true Muslim and a patriot Pakistani.
He paid tribute to Faiz, Iqbal and Bedi, and discussed Iqbal`s stay in Germany. He threw light on the glorifying era of Muslim scientists and urged the students to bring the Muslim glory back in the field of social sciences and science and technology.Dawn.
