Khosa stresses skill-based education for women

ISLAMABAD – Punjab Governor Sardar Muhammad Latif Khosa said on Wednesday that all government and private universities should improve their educational programmes, keeping in view the requirements of the present time. He was of the view that the academic modules of various degree programmes must be in harmony with multi-sector market demands.
He was speaking at the 11th convocation of Fatima Jinnah Women University held here.
Khosa said the present ratio of students getting university-level education was far too low and needed to be enhanced speedily to achieve goals such as country’s development, industrial and economic growth and prosperity.
Khosa said particularly the female students should equip themselves with skills-based higher education, since they had a greater role to play in the society.
He regretted the fact that only the 5 percent students could make it to the universities in Pakistan, which he said was an issued to be addressed urgently since it was a must for the country’s progress. He congratulated all the graduating girls in different disciplines.
Earlier, FJWU Vice Chancellor Dr Samina Amin Qadir highlighted the academic achievements of the university and mentioned varioushigher education programmes being offered to the girl students.
In total, 1,023 varsity students graduated in various disciplines for the session 2010-2011. Two of them got their PhDs, another two M Phils, 647 master’s degrees and 373 were awarded bachelor’s degrees.
The governor awarded degrees to students who showed outstanding performance in their respective fields. At least 30 students were awarded gold medals while 29 won silver medals.
Besides other dignitaries, students’ parents, guests, students, the FJWU faculty members,Higher Education Commission (HEC) Executive Director Prof Sohal Naqvi and FJWU Registrar Dr Maryam Rab were also present on the occasion. (pakistantoday)
