LAHORE The Government College University administration has failed to provide parkingfacility to the students in the campus premises and they are compelled to park their vehicles in the parking lots of City District Government, situated near the varsity campus.
The CDGL parking lots are charging from students parking fees on hourly basis and such practice puts extra financial burden on the students.
It is learnt that the CDG authorities launched meter parking system for all the parking lots functioning near the GCU from Monday without informing the varsity’s administration. According to a ticket collector, they have been asked to collect chargesfor car parking as Rs 10 for first hour, Rs 20 from second hour with charging Rs 5 per hour after two hours. He said the CDG had ordered them to collect the above mentioned amount from October 1 but they had started from November 1. According to him, the students, who have to spend eight hours at the campus, have to pay Rs 50.
It may be mentioned here that the GCU’s students have been facing vehicle parkingproblems for several years as the university administration does don’t allow them to park their cars inside the campus.
About 2,000 students of the university, who have their own cars, have been forced to park their vehicles to the parking lots outside the campus on the roads. When contacted to GCU spokesman, he said they did not have much place inside the campus so the students park their cars in the CDG parking lots.Nation.
