ISLAMABAD:26 Oct: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) offered fatiha and Quran khwani for slain Begum Nusrat Bhutto and named its main auditorium after the doyenne of Movement for Restoration of Democracy (MRD).
Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi, Vice Chancellor, AIOU announced this while addressing to the condolence ceremony in the memory of the mother of democracy.
A large number of university academicians, officers, employees and students were present on the occasion. Before start of the condolence reference one-minute silence was observed. Sangi expressed his deep sorrow over the death saying that Nusrat Bhutto rendered unmatchable sacrifices.
He prayed that Almighty to grant rest to the departed soul in peace and grant courage to the bereaved family, her supporters and followers to bear this loss with fortitude. Sangi said that seminars and lectures with the reference of human rights and democracy would be arranged soon in Nusrat Bhutto Auditorium. Sangi said Ms Bhutto rendered great sacrifices for promoting the philosophy of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, her struggle for restoration of democracy would be remembered forever. Dr. Sangi said that she believed in democracy and is making strenuous efforts for the promotion of democracy at grassroots level and strengthening democratic institutions, Ms Bhutto committed for resolving all issues politically because it does not believe in the politics of confrontation.
Earlier, Quran Khawani was held for Ms Bhutto wherein food was also distributed amongst a large number of participants. Offering dua, Dean, Faculty of Arabic & Islamic Studies prayed that Almighty grant rest to the departed soul in peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with patience.Daily Times.
