FDE Jpb Applications

ISLAMABAD: For 340 vacancies, advertised by the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) as many as 150,000 applications have been received. Educationists indicate that this shows financial condition in the country is worsening.

According to sources, FDE had advertised 340 vacancies, including 220 vacancies of teachers and 120 vacancies for other staff recruitments and the last date for filing application was September 21.

As holiday was announced by the government on September 21 and there were holidays on September 22 and 23 because of Saturday and Sunday, applications were received for another two working days.

Handling the applications has become a problem for the staff of FDE because around 150,000 applications have been received and FDE does not have the capacity to scrutinise and enter data of all applications within a fortnight.

An officer of FDE requesting not to be identified said it has been decided that at least 10 persons will be called from different schools for data entry.

An economist, Abdul Razzaq, while talking to Dawn said because of energy crisis, private jobs and businesses are affected.

“In the past there was a trend in youth to join the private sector because salaries were much more compared to government sector.

According to survey reports during the last three years, as many as one million people have become jobless in the private sector, making government jobs popular again,” he said.

“Because of less job opportunities not only competition is increasing but crime rate has also risen,” he said.

An applicant for the post of teacher, Mohammad Waseem said if he had known that 150,000 people were applying, he would have never applied.

“The government should create job opportunities for the youth because if they have no jobs, they will get involved in negative activities,” he said.

Director Administration FDE, Shahid Khan confirmed to Dawn that applications received for 340 posts were around 150,000 and said the FDE has been calling data entry operators from different schools to computerise the data.Dawn.

NED 7,663 candidates taking their pre-admission entry test for the academic session 2012-2013 on Saturday.

KARACHI : The vast open grounds of the NED University of Engineering and Technology were turned into extended examination halls under the cool white marquee put up for 7,663 candidates taking their pre-admission entry test for the academic session 2012-2013 on Saturday.

Of the 7,663 students who appeared for the entry test, 7,015 were for pre-engineering while 648 were for pre-medical.

The students were taking tests to get admissions to the civil engineering (CE), automotive engineering (AU), chemical engineering (CH), software engineering (SE), medical engineering (MD), bio-engineering (BO), food engineering (FD), architecture and planning (AR) and other departments.

The university has 22 departments and six faculties.

The 7,663 candidates were competing for 1,952 seats while 31 seats were reserved for self-finance students.

The pre-medical students were trying to get admissions to the MD, BO or FD departments and the pre-engineering students were vying for admissions to the remaining 19 departments of the university.

The duration of the tests was two hours — from 10am to 12 noon — and the answers were uploaded on the NED website (www.neduet.edu.pk) soon after the test, at around 12.15pm.

“The answers are uploaded so that the candidates can check the answers by looking at their carbon copies later,” said deputy chairman of the admission committee 2012-2013 Prof Dr
Syed Amir Iqbal. “The actual results will also be posted on the site by 7pm besides the university notice boards,” he added.

The entry tests were based on the candidates’ intermediate course studies with questions regarding physics, chemistry, mathematics and English. “English, as you know, is a must in all branches of engineering,” said the professor. “Each section has some 25 questions and the candidates should at least get 50 per cent marks to pass the test,” he added.

The atmosphere outside the campus resembled a gala with various student bodies stalls set up by the roadside to keep parents and guardians who had come along with the students taking the tests engaged.

Mr and Mrs Shakeel Ahmed, parents of Jawad Ahmed, said that they might not have prayer beads in their hands, but they were constantly praying for their son’s success in their hearts.

“He has already gotten admission to the NUST, but we will definitely go for the NED if he gets into the department of his choice here,” said Mr Ahmed.

Shahnaz Waqar, mother of Paaras Waqar, said that she really hoped that her daughter got into the NED as they had not really thought about other options as yet.

The mother was really sick with worry after she had heard a female security guard say that scientific calculators were not allowed in the entry test but relaxed after being reassured that it was not true.

“What will happen, will happen. I can accept my daughter not getting into the NED, but cannot accept her being treated unfairly during the test,” she said later.

Another mother, Zakia Muzzafar, said that her daughter Mehrunissa had been a Grade-A student throughout and she was sure that she would do very well here as well.Dawn.

LARKANA: The Chandka Teachers Association (CTA),

LARKANA: The Chandka Teachers Association (CTA), Larkana, on Saturday held another general body which urged the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SBBMU) vice chancellor to reconsider his order regarding transfer of a professor from the institution.

The VC, Dr Akbar Haider Soomro, had placed the services of Professor Dr Saeed Ahmed Sangi, chairman of cardiology department, at the disposal of the chancellor after a quarrel with him (Prof Sangi) on the premises of the university. The professor was accused of trying to cause harm to the VC while reversing his car outside the university mosque a couple of weeks back.

An FIR lodged against him on behalf of the VC also accused the professor of using indecent language against the vice chancellor.

The meeting regretted the VC’s stubborn attitude towards the CTA in its efforts for a patch-up between the two sides. CTA chief Dr Badaruddin Junejo, who heads the department of psychiatry at the Chandka Medical College (CMC), chaired the general body meeting. He said that the CTA would offer an live branch soon and if the VC did not heed the teacher’s advice,
as well as other demands, within a fortnight, a protest campaign would be launched against him.

The general body meeting demanded early advertising of the vacant seats of professors, associate professors (basic and clinical sides) in newspapers and recruitment on these seats in accordance with the rules of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. It said that teachers should be given financial benefits along with upgrading of their posts. Teaching staff’s children should be allowed 50 per cent concession in fees, it said, and also called for early repair and renovation of the CMC Staff Colony.

The meeting, however, focused on an amicable solution to the current stand-off between the VC and the cardiology professor.Dawn.

The admissions process for allocating 1,700 seats spread across seven medical colleges in the province would begin from September 3 with entrance tests to be simultaneously conducted at five examination centres.

These decisions were made in a meeting at the Sindh Secretariat presided over by provincial health minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed on Tuesday.

The officials met to finalise a uniform admission policy for the next academic session for the colleges, slated to start from November 1. The students will be able to get their application forms from September 3, which they could submit, along with all the necessary documents, till September 17. If a student fails to acquire their certificates for prerequisite education by that date, they would be allowed to submit them by September 22.

The health department would then issue on September 25 a list of candidates eligible to take the entrance test, which is scheduled for October 7 and would be conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS).

NTS would then announce the results on October 10, after which the department would issue a provisional merit list on October 15. Applicants would be allowed to lodge their complaints over the next 24 hours. After resolving all genuine grievances, the department will announce the final merit list on October 20.
