Sindh The Governor of Sindh, Muhammadmian Soomro, has called upon the country’s public sector universities to maintain an active relationship with the alumni association and the private sector so as to establish endowment funds for their development,restoration of their autonomy and to keep the government away from interfering in their affairs.
Addressing Convocation-2001 of the University of Karachi on Saturday, he appreciated the efforts of Karachi University and its administration for inducting the private sector for generating funds and other support for establishing many institutes of higher and advanced studies of science and information technology at the university. He also lauded the services of personalities from the academics and industry who contributed towards the establishment of these institutes.
In order to impart quality education, the governor called on the universities to evolve transparent systems for admissions.
He highlighted the role of the universities in promotion of the environment of national development, nationalism and solidarity in any country and added that university campus should be free from every kind of politics and polarization.
In his welcome speech, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr Zafar Saeed Saify, said the university was celebrating its golden jubilee and many programmes had been organized by the teachers and the students in this connection.
